Sunshine Club

In September 2004 the school opened a childcare provision to complement the educational provision provided by the school.  This is known as St Oswald’s Sunshine Club.  The Sunshine Club is based within the school and we aim to complement the school’s provision of high quality education with on site high quality child care provision for children 3-11.  3-4 year olds attending between 8.45am – 3pm are fully integrated into the Nursery class.

The Sunshine Club:

  • Provides high quality childcare for children attending St Oswald’s School outside of school hours (8-9am and 3-6pm).
  • Provides early years education and childcare for children who do not attend St Oswald’s School.
  • Works in partnership with parents to help children to learn and develop.
  • Adds to the life and well-being of the local community.
  • Offers children and their parents a service, which promotes equality and values diversity.

As a member of St Oswald’s Sunshine Club your child:

  • Is in a safe and stimulating environment;
  • Is given generous care and attention, because of our high ratio of adults to children;
  • Has the chance to join with other children and adults to live, play, work and learn together;
  • Is encouraged to take forward her/his learning and development by being helped to build on what she/he already knows and can do;
  • Has a personal key person who makes sure your child makes satisfying progress;
  • Is in a setting which sees you as a partner in helping your child to learn and develop.

St Oswald’s Sunshine Club is open Monday to Friday from 8am until 6pm for 50 weeks of the year.  It is closed for two weeks at Christmas and on Bank Holidays.

We offer different types of care and education between 8.00am and 6.00pm:

  • Wrap around nursery provision (for children who attend St Oswald’s nursery)
  • Day care and education for pre-school children who do not attend St Oswald’s nursery
  • Before and After School Club
  • Holiday Club

Wrap around care

This is extended nursery provision for children attending St Oswald’s nursery class. Children are entitled to 15 hours of free Nursery class provision with additional hours being provided by the Sunshine Club for which fees will be charged.  These additional hours are provided during school term time only.

Private day nursery and integrated care and education

This is available during school term time during the hours of opening for children from the age of 3 who do not attend St Oswald’s Nursery class.  Children follow the Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) and learn through play and carefully planned activities.  This provision is integrated with the school’s Nursery class.

Before and after school club

This is for children who attend St Oswald’s Primary and Nursery school.  It is also possible for the Sunshine Club to collect children from nearby St Margaret’s Primary School for the after school club depending on the availability of transport.  Parents can leave children from 8.00am before nursery or school and collect children up to 6.00pm after school.  The emphasis will be on having fun, relaxing and playing together.  Help with homework can also be given.

Holiday club

This is for children aged 3-11 and runs daily in holiday periods with the exception of bank holidays and the Christmas period.  Fun and a variety of play and new activities to try will be on offer.  Full and/or half day sessions are available.
